First Day of Classes
11:22 AM
Hello from Costa Rica!
I arrived with very few problems to Costa Rica on Saturday, approximatly 1:00 a.m. EST, or 11:00 p.m. Costa Rican time (if that makes any sense). I traveled 3 and a half hours by bus to reach the town of Quepos, where I met my host family. The family is small by today´s standards, only two children. My host mother, Olga, told me that she has 18 brothers and sisters! Can you imagine being one of 18!!!!! Olga is an excellent cook and will talk with me in Spanish. The one rule of the house is that Spanish must be spoken inside, which is a great rule to have. You must be wondering why this rule is in place... and that is because there is one other exchange student in the house with me. His name is Yens and he is from Germany. He knows much less Spanish than I do, but he has come a long way in the past two weeks, or so Olga has told me.
I went to the beach on Sunday. I tried to go the National Park, but it was full of people and I did not want to wait an hour and a half to go to the beach in the park. The reason it is full is because the students in all of Costa Rica are in vacation time, for a week. I will attempt to go next week or the following. On my way to the public beach I encountered a two-toed sloth hanging out on a fence. I took some pictures and will upload them ASAP. The public beach was nice and I was able to talk to some Ticos, native Costaricans.
I started classes today at COSI. My interview was pretty simple. This interview is to place me in an appropriate class. At first, I was to have the teacher all to myself, but then another woman, Becca, joined my class. So there is two of us. Today we went though the preterite, imperfect, preterite perfecto, and the plus perfect. This helped a lot to actually go through the different grammar reasons behind the different tenses in the past. I know... probably sounds boring to most of you, but I am excited to start using my ¨new¨ Spanish! I also have homework! So, students... you are not the only ones that receive homework on the first day of school.
Well, that´s it for now. I will write more late! Take care everyone!
